Pezula Golf Course
Sparrebosch Clifftop Estate in Knysna
is home to the spectacular Pezula Golf Course. Pezula possesses one of the
best locations on the African continent as it is surrounded by rugged cliffs,
ancient forests and sheltered beaches. This championship golf course is situated
on the East head of Knysna, overlooking the Indian Ocean , Knysna lagoon and the
Outeniqua Mountain range. It is also in the heart of the famous Garden Route and
only a 40-minute flight from Cape Town.
The course's designers, Ron Fream
and David Dale (Golfplan USA) have compared the look
of Pezula golf course to that of Gleneagles in the Scottish Highlands and Pebble
beach on the Monterey coastline. A terrain of rolling fairways, fynbos
and eyebrow bunkers does, however, make it very difficult to walk this course
therefore golf carts are provided for all golfers. The five different
tee options on every hole cater for all skill levels. No two challenges, or views,
are alike. The signature holes are the three holes built on the cliff top overlooking
the ocean; the par-five 13th, par-four 14th and the par-three 15th. The par-four
14th is particularly challenging as it is built right on the breach of the cliffs.
It is short and requires you to lay-up before firing at the pin. The green is
completely surrounded by bunkers. Pezula has been chosen to host the ladies world
championships in 2005, 2006 and 2007.Course type: Parklands/Links Combination

The
George Golf Club
The George Golf course, is a beautifully
manicured, 72 par, 18 hole course, with bent greens, set in the heart of the garden
route. A must for visitors to the area this course has a mature parkland layout
with many trees and thick undergrowth.
The back nine consists of three
par-fours, three par-threes and three par-fives. The long par-three 17th hole,
played from an elevated tee requires a well-struck long iron or fairway wood to
a narrow green.
The course rating for men is either 70 (club - 5774m) or
72 (championship - 6100m), while that for the ladies is 72 (5188m).

Pearl
Valley
This stunning course is situated in the Winelands,
between Paarl and Franschhoek. It boasts a range of attractive features, with
artfully created water hazards and bunkers which frame the course. The wide fairways
make this a very playable course for all levels of golfers.
Designed by
Jack Nicklaus, in its engineering and planning detail, the course is very rare.
It is crossed by roads in only three places, and the drainage system allows play
to continue just minutes after a severe cloudburst. |
